[THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED]

Over the past few weeks, I’ve loved reading all of your answers to the questions in “My Favorite Things Holiday Giveaway” series – and I actually did read every single comment!   You’ve told me about your favorite cookies, holiday wish lists, favorite kitchen equipment, and your favorite types of cheese and it’s been great getting to you all of you better (some of your comments made me laugh out loud, by the way).

As we approach the end of the year, I probably won’t be writing a reflection post as I do each year since we’ll likely be in the middle of moving but I want to take a moment now to thank you each and every one you for sticking with me this year, for your comment love, and for allowing me to share a bit of what goes on in my kitchen with you.  Smells Like Home has grown in ways I couldn’t imagine this year and this all comes back to the support of my awesome readers.

For the final round of this giveaway series, I’m giving away a $100 Amazon Gift Card.  From reading your wish lists, I know this gift card could benefit most of you (except maybe the commenter who wants her son to get married and give her grandchildren!).  Use it for yourself or as a way to fill in those last few gifts for your kids…or maybe even “regift” it – wouldn’t that be the best regift ever?!  However you decide to use it, know that it comes with my greatest thanks for helping me love what I do here in my little corner of the blogging world.

[THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED]

  1. Answer this question in the comment section of this post (and only this post):  What are you most thankful for this holiday season?

  6. One winner will be chosen by that handy-dandy random number generator we’re all familiar with.

I have so much to be grateful for – a wonderful husband, a loving family, friends, my faith. But this year is extra special. After after 5 years of trying to become parents and somewhere along that time line, being told that we could not have children, here I am 7 1/2 months pregnant. More grateful than this little miracle, I was in a car accident the Wednesday before Thanksgiving…me and the baby landed in the hospital, luckily with the care that I received and my guardian angels taking care of me, I am here – to be able to write this note of gratitude and our little baby is still growing strong in my belly. What a wonderful Christmas gift!

I’m most thankful to be spending the holidays with my dad this year. First time in 12 years!!! I’m really nervous but excited at the same time.

But, I gotta say…the person who wants her son married? This could totally help her. She could use this as a bribe. “You can have this gift card to help pay for the wedding! You can use it to buy baby supplies! But you gotta get down on your knee first!” See? Amazon gift cards really can be a gift towards any goal 😉

I am most thankful for my husband. I’ve had a rough couple of years – a lot of work drama, nasty dental work (which is why I’m home right now), best friend moved to another continent – and he’s kept me going through it despite a busy work schedule of his own, and being in grad school. He helps me keep a healthy perspective, and to not wallow. I’m thankful for many other things, like fun blogs, a roof over my head (we bought a house this year, which is a mixed blessing…), Skype, and soft foods, but I’m *most* thankful to know him.

This year I’m thankful to be employed. I wasn’t last year – I got laid off November 30th (one person commented, “Well at least Thanksgiving will be paid for…”), and it was really REALLY scary to be 61, unemployed, and without health insurance 2 months after hip replacement surgery. I was hired back into the University (at lower pay, of course), and am very happy to be working again.

After losing my job, and then having lost my home in foreclosure, and last, but not least, I was forced into bankruptcy. I know I’m not alone in problems such as these, but, of course, when it happens to you that is not a comfort or a remedy. Because of my age and poor economy, I couldn’t get another job, so now I am retired and relying on my Social Security check each month for my complete source of income. With the help from a dear friend of mine, I found an affordable mobile home to purchase with the savings I had. I was devastated when all this occurred, but now everything has brightened and I am very comfortable in my new home and thankful to have found a friendly and loving church in my new neighborhood.
