Happy Monday! I don’t know about you, but I’ve already got a list a mile long of new ideas and old favorites for my holiday baking…and I expect it will only be more difficult to narrow this list down as November wanes on and holiday recipes explode all over the Interwebs. Now truthfully, I may not be able to help you narrow down your list but how about a little help with the ever-expanding expense of holiday baking?
King Arthur Flour has long been one of my favorite resources for baking supplies and every time I’ve stepped foot in the Baker’s Store in Norwich, VT, I’ve been transported to a baker’s heaven. So….to kick-off my “Favorite Things Holiday Giveaway” series that you may or may not have seen on Facebook, I feel like you need to know about the greatness that is KAF via a few of my favorite King Arthur products, especially if you give away food gifts at the holidays and a few possibly unknown facts…
- Did you know that the KAF website supports a 2000+ recipe collection with recipes that are tested in their own test-kitchens. I’ve made and blogged a few of these recipes…and have a ton more on my t0-make list…and you will too so go there now. 🙂
- Ever need a baking question answered while you’re in the middle of making a recipe with no one around to ask it to? Well, how about using KAF’s free Baking Hotline?
- Have you been trying to bake gluten-free? I’m definitely no expert in this field, but I’ve heard awesome things from gluten-free bakers about KAF’s gluten-free line of flours, mixes, and recipes!
- For more information, recipes, and sales/promotions, be sure to sign up for KAF’s emails (I get these emails and I promise they don’t bombard you with emails!) or follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.

I’m going to have to go with my grandmother’s tea cakes! Not too sweet and perfectly buttery!
I love traditional sugar cookies with frosting.
My favorite holiday cookie is definitely the Snickerdoodle. It just calls out holiday to me! A close second would be gingerbread men. My grandpa and I used to make them every Christmas with cinnamon candy for decoration.
My favorite are the 3-color (also called rainbow or 7-layer) cookies that I make every year. They’re a family tradition, and I don’t think I’d make it through the holidays without them!
It’s a really toss up between gingersnaps and spumoni cookies 🙂

A favorite holiday cookie is little raindeer faces: scoop a ball of cookie dough (your favorite one-color dough, like peanutbutter, vanilla, snickerdoodle, chocolate….) and add broken pretzels for the antlers, a red m&m for the nose, and two small cholocate chips for the eyes. They are cute and sculptural! OMG I just did an image search for these and there are so many cute variations!!!

You can’t go wrong with a simple sugar cookie!
Holidays always mean sugar cookies to me. I made them with my grandparents who always had a big spread set up- egg washes, sugars of all colors, edible silver, red, green balls, sprinkles etc. And more cookie cutters than you could ever imagine… I always went straight for the cookie cutter lips because they were so silly. Now my mom has all the cookie cutters and it’s just not Christmas until we get to make some sugar cookies.
My favorite Christmas cookie isn’t a cookie at all! My family makes a ton of sweets around that time of year, but not many of them are cookies. I have however, always looked forward to what my family calls “peanut-butter candy” which is pretty much just peanut butter wrapped lovingly in a powdered sugary mixture into a little pinwheel. It is the best stuff ever!
Oh, this is easy as pie….gingerbread cookies are my favorite to bake, decorate and give over the holidays. Fragrant gingerbread also makes the house smell yummy! KAF has a great recipe for both the cookies and the icing.
My grandma’s molasses cookies!

I think my favorite holiday cookie is a russian tea cake, but only because it is the ONE time a year I eat them! There is just something about the powdered sugar on the outside that gets me, love them!
I love molasses cookies!
I love the eggnog version of sugar cookies (which means there is nutmeg & cinnamon in the sugar cookie dough and then the icing is made with eggnog as the liquid instead of plain milk). In the past few years, my friends and I have very much enjoyed making these into Disgruntled Cookies (look here for examples of disgruntled cookies: http://wintersnowgypsy.blogspot.com/2009/12/disgruntled-holiday-cookies.html).
