Can you believe that we’re celebrating 5 years of blogging here at Smells Like Home today?! FIVE YEARS. Five years of sharing my favorite recipes, kitchen adventures, and photos (if you want a laugh, check out the archives) with you. Five years of reading your awesome comments and visiting so many of your own blogs. Five years of watching the food blogging world change, of experiencing our main medium of communication change from a single platform to the explosion of social media. I would make white divinity fudge. My grandmother made it when I was young and I was amazed as I watched her slowly pour a fine ribbon of hot syrup into a fluff of meringue in the bowl of her cool stand mixer, add walnuts and scoop it all back out into a buttered pan. Her divinity fudge melted in your mouth and no one in our family (or in a store bought version) has ever been able to come close to duplicating it. It was so light and fluffy – one of those treats that you savored yet wondered how it could be so light and so rich at the same time.

I would make homemade cinnamon rolls just like my Grandma used to make. I was raised by my dear grandparents, and every Friday when we would come home from school, on the table would be cinnamon rolls my Grandma made with her ancient Kitchenaid. I would make my Mango Cream Pie Recipe with this KitchenAid mixer. I discovered the recipe when I was cruising the south pacific with my family in 2000. It is a very long story, but here is the short version. In June of 2000 my parents and I left on a long journey to sail to Australia via the South Pacific Islands. Our journey started in Southern California and our first destination was the Marquesas Islands. I met my now husband in Tahiti. Through my adventures throughout the South Pacific I quickly learned that finding finding the normal ingredients that are so readily available in US are quite hard to find in third world countries! Since I could always find plenty of mangos and eggs this became a favorite recipe of mine. With this KitchenAid mixer I would be able to whip this recipe up in minutes in stead of the hours it took to do when we lived on the boat (aka hand beating the egg whites). Check out our website for the full story.
