So…I’ve just committed to writing 30 posts this month. Am I crazy or what?
Actually, I’ve been thinking about doing NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) since…I don’t know – forever? – and this was as good a time as any to make the leap and do it…or the jump, I guess, since this month’s theme is Jump.
Why, you ask, would I ever want to commit to writing 30 posts in 30 days? Well, I have a few reasons.
The first being that I feel like my posting here has fallen off in the past couple of months and I’d like to get myself back in the swing of things, sharing my stuff with you guys on a regular basis even after this marathon month closes out.
Secondly, I truly want to work on my writing skills. I feel like I’ve got a lot to say most of the time but I don’t always know how to get it out of my brain in a way that isn’t repetitive from post to post or that sounds like I’m fluffing up my posts with overly effusive nonsense. This month will force me to sit down and focus. My goal is to schedule in time every day to do this…to give myself a break from the rush-rush-rush of everyday life and just write.
And lastly, I’d like to share more of me with you and get to know you guys better. What I’ve found when writing about food these past five years, is that it’s so easy to get caught up in being recipe-focused and as a result, a level of being personal is lost. So, many of my posts over the next month will be short snippits of what’s going on in my/our life. There will be some travel-related posts and some randomness from our kitchen/yard/garden…lots will be photo-driven, some will not…and I want to hear what you guys have to say, whether it be in the comments or on Facebook/twitter. And have no fear, there will be food. 🙂
I hope you stick with me as I try to figure a few things out here this month – it should be a fun ride!
This sounds like a really interesting idea. One that I’ve never heard of before. You’ve given me inspiration, so I’ll have to check this out! Thanks!
Good for you – I’ve looked at NaBloPoMo more than a few times. Some weeks I’m able to blog four times, but normally I’m two to three times a week. I’m interested to read how you’ll do with the set aside time for writing. I know I should do that too, but I don’t. Good luck!
I’ve toyed with the idea of committing to NaBloPoMo, just for the purpose of forcing myself to do something I love — writing. I’m hopeful you’ll inspire me.
I felt much the same way you do when I started doing NaBloPoMo. I started in March and have been doing it ever since. It is a little scary going in, but then you get used to it and it becomes fun. I think it does help your writing improve and I love the writing prompts that are there if I choose to write them. Most of all, if you write daily and take the time to read others writing, it really does somehow help you improve. The hardest times I have found to keep on the straight and narrow is when my husband is home or it is a holiday. Then it really becomes a challenge.
