Nutella Crumb Cake Recipe

Nutella Crumb Cake is a twist on the classic New York Crumb cake.  With a layer of creamy Nutella in the middle and big, big cinnamon crumbs on top, this is a major winner of a cake!

INGREDIENTS

INGREDIENTS

- Flour - Sugar - Salt, Baking Soda - Sour Cream - Milk - Butter - Cinnamon - Eggs - Vanilla extract - Nutella

STEP 1.

Mixed melted butter with white & dark brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and flour to make the crumbs.

STEP 2.

Whisk the sour cream and milk together in a 1-cup glass measuring cup or small mixing bowl.

STEP 3.

Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a stand mixer bowl. Drop butter pieces in with the mixer running.

STEP 4.

Pour the sour cream mixture into the bowl. Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix until just combined. 

STEP 5.

Spread 2/3 of the batter in a prepared square pan. Layer on Nutella. Spread remaining batter over the Nutella. 

STEP 6.

Gently squeeze the crumb dough in your hands to start forming the crumb topping.

STEP 7.

Working around the outside of the pan to the center, drop the shaped crumbs onto the cake batter. 

STEP 8.

Bake for 43 to 46 minutes at 325 degrees F. The crumb topping should be lightly golden brown.

STEP 9.

Cool the cake completely (in the pan) on a wire rack. Dust the top with powdered sugar.

STEP 10.

Cut the cake into 9, 12, or 16 squares. Serve with plenty of napkins, coffee, and/or tea!

TIPS & TRICKS

Do not overmix the cake batter. The cake will lose it's air bubbles and it will not rise.

Be gentle when placing the crumb topping on top of the cake batter. Always work from the edges towards the center of the pan.
